The Relationship between Stress and Resilience of Baccalaureate Nursing Students

Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to identify the level of stress and resilience, and the relationship between these variables.

Methods and Materials : Data was collected by structured questionnaires of 520 baccalaureate nursing students at G metropolitan city and C province from 1st June, 2010 to 10th Aug. 2010. The tool were Clinical Practice Stress modified by Kim & Lee(2005), Life Stress developed by Goo(2008), and Resilience developed by Wagnild & Young(1993). Data was analyzed using SPSS ver. 18.0 PC+ by descriptive, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test and Pearson's correlation coefficient.

Results : The mean score of life stress was clinical practice stress was 1.72points, clinical practice stress was 3.39points, and resilience was 3.39 points. There was a significant difference of life stress according to age, grade, health status, human relationship and satisfaction for nursing. There was higher clinical practice stress of 4th grade than that 3rd grade among nursing students. There was a significant difference of resilience according to grade, health status, human relationship and satisfaction for nursing.

Conclusion : This study revealed that there were significant negative correlations among life stress, clinical practice stress and resilience.
